Gdansk: Get your appetite on Posted on November 2, 2013December 10, 2013 by david The food in Gdansk is quite good. It’s hearty, of course, which is to be expected in a climate that’s relatively cool year around. I snapped a few photos of the dishes Kathy and I scarfed down in restaurants while in the city in late October. Pickled herring with dark bread. (There’s also a delicious creamed version.) Perhaps this was my favorite dish while in northern Poland. Potato pancakes, light and crisp, with a salad that made perfect sense. Small, often elegant cafes dot Gdansk, most selling the same pastries and offering coffee and tea. Pastries are not light and delicate here; they’re substantial. I could scarcely finish the hazelnut-filled crescent above.
